New Automation & Diagnostics Features on TM-14 Smart Tilt Mixer

Published On: January 25th, 2025

Vince Hagan Co. continues to build a suite of technology features affording mobile or stationary concrete batch plant owners new, labor-saving remote operation, automated lubrication, diagnostic and preventative maintenance possibilities. The suite is programmed for desktop users or mobile devices with the SmartVH App.

The manufacturer’s growing software, sensor and smart tool line up will be front and center this month at World of Concrete 2025. The Vince Hagan team will spotlight a new PLC-based control package for the TM-14 Smart Tilt Mixer. Designers have upgraded the drum’s electronics to limit manual inspection requirements and minimize equipment-related plant shut down probability. Along with controlling the mixer and all optional sub-systems, advanced PLC algorithms provide plant operators with a status feedback and allow for remote diagnostics with a wireless access port.

The PLC control package monitors the mixer’s operating condition and triggers alerts or fault codes in the event service is required. It gauges hydraulic and drive system lubricant temperatures and notifies operators of low grease or oil levels. An automated, PLC-driven spray system extends mixer pinion, bull gear and main/edge roller service life by frequently applying the proper amount of lubrication with uniform coverage. The control package also monitors bearing and bushing grease levels to ensure optimal mixer lubrication.

Vince Hagan designers have programmed TM-14 mixer drive soft starters to lower in-rush current and power consumption while reducing pinion and bull gear wear from across-the-line starting of the mixer drives. Variable speed drive functions adjust drum rotation during inactivity, charging or mixing. Optional system upgrades include VFD controller, solid state overloads, and PLC panel for automated speed control (2-12 rpm). Industry-first position sensors equip the PLC system to ensure repeatable smooth and uniform drum tilt. A load detection mechanism based on electric current draw enables users to determine excess drum wall or fin buildup.
