MIG Welder/Fitter

Basic Functions:

The Vince Hagan Company is seeking experienced welders/fitters in fabrication and/or assembly of heavy structural weldments and/or construction industry equipment.

Pay Rate: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour. Starting Pay Rate based on previous job experience and test results.

Shifts: 1st Shift (7am – 3:30pm), 2nd Shift (3:30pm – 12am).

Welder/Fitter – Experience – 3-5 years

  • Perform all necessary operations with minimum supervision to layout and weld in any position all types of fabrications using automatic and non-automatic welders. Must work from blueprints, sketches, specifications and oral instructions. Directs work of others and responsible for the work of those directed. May be required to pass certification welding test. Owns own small hand tools. Performs other duties as directed.
  • Pay starting at $22.00 per hour based on weld test score.

Welder A – Experience – 2-3 years

  • Perform all necessary operations with minimum supervision to layout and weld in any position all types of fabrications using automatic and non-automatic welders. Must weld in all positions. Must work from blueprints, sketches, specifications and oral instructions. Must be able to read and understand weld symbols and use weld gage. May be required to pass certification welding test. Owns own small hand tools. Performs other duties as directed.
  • Pay starting at $21.00 per hour based on weld test score.

Welder B – Experience 1-3 year

  • Perform simple welding and tack welding. Must pass welding test in the flat and horizontal position. Able to use Oxy/Acetylene cutting torch to perform required operations. May grind, wire, brush, drill, etc. to assist welders and welder fitters. Performs other duties as directed.
  • Pay starting at $20.00 per hour based on weld test score.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Perform welding duties using wire welding FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding).
  2. Weld steel components on equipment with appropriate welding equipment in accordance with the material(s) required for the blueprints, diagrams, work orders, instruction (oral and written), process, specified procedures, layouts, and all other quality requirements.
  3. Individual welds range from simple tack welds to complex welds, performed in varying positions and spaces. Welding work involves set-up and laying out work using templates and fixtures to modify, fabricate, or repair equipment parts and/or products.
  4. Operate or use various air, power, hand tools including Air Arc, welding gun, grinders, wrenches, hammers, cutting torches, drills, punches, scrapers, and others. Also operate or use forklifts, and cranes and overhead hoists with associated rigging equipment.
  5. Keep welding equipment and tools operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshoot malfunctions, follow manufacturer’s instructions, call for repairs, and complete daily check sheets.
  6. AWS 4G qualification skills are the minimum requirement for all Vince Hagan Welder positions.
  7. Inspect, clean, and improve welds as necessary to meet rigorous Vince Hagan product and quality specifications. Continuously strive to improve your work-related skills, efficiency, and the quality of output.
  8. Use a computer to access and open/close computer documents, perform data entry in Company’s ERP software, and other basic computer skills.
  9. Fulfill work requirements according to Vince Hagan quality standards determined for the assigned work tasks, including incoming and outgoing quality checks, and other quality inspections as required by management. Document actions by completing production and quality forms.
  10. Maintain a safe, organized, and clean working environment following the Company’s guidelines and Hazardous Waste Management programs.
  11. Conserve resources by appropriately and efficiently using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish work tasks.
  12. Use Vince Hagan property with care and respect, help maintain it in good working condition, and retain it on premises.
  13. Interact with fellow Vince Hagan employees, customers, and management in a cooperative, supportive, and courteous manner; comply with Vince Hagan policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  14. Perform or assist in other assigned duties as qualified and trained.

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform work standing on concrete 8 hours to 12 hours per day, and a minimum of 3 days up to 7 days per week.
  2. Willingness to train/work during hours outside of regularly-scheduled core shift and flexibility to work additional hours beyond and/or consecutively with core work schedule when needed.
  3. Willingness to cross-train and perform the work of any job tasks or positions within the Company as assigned, outside of or in addition to primarily-assigned position, work area, and/or department.
  4. Willingness to assist with training and mentoring co-workers.
  5. Regular and reliable attendance, appearing on time for each scheduled work day and working all the scheduled work hours.
  6. Perform work safely in accordance with all Company safety policies, procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  7. Perform work in various physical positions including standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching (temporary variances may be accommodated based on employee’s primary assignment).
  8. Perform work in heavy industrial setting with exposure to heat, cold, and humidity, industrial odors, fumes, gasses, chemicals, oil, grease, smoke, dust, loud noise (hearing protection provided and required), and vibration. Work involves climbing ladders and stairs, movement of heavy objects, using pneumatic tools, working with moving machinery and equipment, working near moving mechanical parts, working in cramped quarters, and working above floor level which could include high, precarious places.  There is risk of electrical shock associated with this job.
  9. Ability to wear the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for this position, including hearing protection, safety glasses, safety boots with metatarsal guards, face shield, welding helmet, welding gloves, welding sleeves/jacket (leather or cloth), and welding apron/chaps. A respirator may also be required. Fall protection may also be required.
  10. Ability to operate or use a variety of hand, power, and air tools and devices.
  11. Ability to use and read a tape measure correctly. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  12. Ability to understand welding symbols and diagrams, and read blueprints and/or other printed instructional materials for guidance and specifications in order to assemble and/or weld products or parts in a correct and efficient manner.
  13. Ability to apply common sense.
  14. Must complete and maintain forklift operation certification and be able to safely operate a forklift when necessary.

Education/Experience:

  1. Must pass administered weld test to be considered for this position.
  2. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  3. Welding training and/or experience required.
  4. Relevant trade school or college course work desired.
  5. Ability to correctly use and read a tape measure, and read/understand job-related blueprints, required.
  6. Heavy equipment manufacturing experience desired.
  7. Computer experience desired.
  8. Bilingual speakers are desired.

Primary work assignment will require employees to frequently push/pull/lift from the floor to the table, and lift from table to shoulder level, up to 45 pounds. Employees may occasionally push/pull/lift below or above shoulder level greater than 45 pounds if they are physically able to do so safely.
